How to type Alt codes on Windows
- Turn on Num Lock on your keyboard.
- Hold down the Alt key on the left side of the keyboard.
- While holding Alt, type the number code on the numeric keypad (the number row will not work on most laptops).
- Release Alt and the symbol appears where your cursor is.
Alt codes let you type special characters that are not printed on your keyboard — é, ©, €, ★ and hundreds more — by holding Alt and typing a number on the numeric keypad. This finder keeps the most useful codes in one searchable table, so you never have to memorise them.
Search by the symbol or by its name, click any row to copy the character, then paste it into your document, post or password. The table covers accented letters for European languages, currency signs, math notation, arrows, quotes and everyday symbols.
How to use the Alt-Code Finder

- Click the row you need — the symbol is copied to your clipboard.
- Paste the symbol into your document or post.
- To type it by hand later, follow the Num Lock steps under the table.
